Company Designs Spoon to Help People with Parkinson’s Disease

December 10, 2014 | By Natalie | Disability Attorneys, Disability Denials, Social Security Disability

The uncontrollable tremors and shaking that people with Parkinson’s disease experience makes it difficult for them to perform even the most routine activities, like eating. Now a company has designed a spoon that is meant to help people who suffer from these uncontrollable tremors.

Google recently showed interest in investing in the Liftware spoon that has been designed to help people with Parkinson’s disease eat conveniently and without fuss. The portable device contains a small microprocessor inside the spoon. When the person’s hand begins to experience tremors, the vibrations that he experiences are recorded by the processor, which immediately coaxes the handle of the spoon to move in the other direction. That helps stabilize the vibrations, and reduces the tremors by as much as 70%. The person is therefore able to hold food in the spoon without spilling it.

The Liftware spoon has been developed by a company that was recently acquired by Google. According to the company, the company consists of engineers who are specifically working on technologies and designs that can help people who suffer from the kind of tremors that are specific to Parkinson’s disease.

If you suffer from this motor system disorder, then you may be eligible for Social Security benefits. In order to qualify for benefits, you must prove that the condition has resulted in slowness of movement, or tremors in two extremities, or excessive movement difficulties, or an abnormally slow rate of walking.

M. Stanley Whitehead is a Houston Social Security disability attorney, representing people who want to claim disability benefits, or appeal a denial of their claim.

"I would highly recommend this firm to everyone, Wonderful firm, they took my case , when I was told by a few firms in Ohio that I did not have a case, Marc Whitehead and Associates settled the case in a timely fashion"  Delecia via
"I want to thank the office of Marc Whitehead and especially Jaime Almaguer who was my caseworker. I had begun the disability process myself until I heard about this lawyers' office in Texas. Seemed strange working with folks across the country that I would never meet. Nevertheless, they were able to get my disability first time around. I felt comfortable discussing my issues privately with them and being able to let Jaime do the work. He was responsive, caring and very professional. Thank you all so much, this has changed my life."  Lynne via
