The uncontrollable tremors and shaking that people with Parkinson’s disease experience makes it difficult for them to perform even the most routine activities, like eating. Now a company has designed a spoon that is meant to help people who suffer from these uncontrollable tremors.
Google recently showed interest in investing in the Liftware spoon that has been designed to help people with Parkinson’s disease eat conveniently and without fuss. The portable device contains a small microprocessor inside the spoon. When the person’s hand begins to experience tremors, the vibrations that he experiences are recorded by the processor, which immediately coaxes the handle of the spoon to move in the other direction. That helps stabilize the vibrations, and reduces the tremors by as much as 70%. The person is therefore able to hold food in the spoon without spilling it.
The Liftware spoon has been developed by a company that was recently acquired by Google. According to the company, the company consists of engineers who are specifically working on technologies and designs that can help people who suffer from the kind of tremors that are specific to Parkinson’s disease.
