A new study finds that vitamin D supplements could help alleviate the often painful and debilitating symptoms of fibromyalgia. The research, which was conducted in Austria, finds that taking vitamin D supplements can reduce the chronic, stabbing, and painful symptoms related to fibromyalgia. When the researchers analyzed a group of women with fibromyalgia, they found that the women reported fewer symptoms of pain and fatigue after taking the vitamin D supplements for 24 weeks. Overall, these women also reported higher levels of physical functioning. Obviously, it’s too early to tell whether vitamin D supplements could be an effective long-term strategy to manage fibromyalgia symptoms.
Fibromyalgia is a severely disabling condition, and the pain can be so sudden and intense at times that the person may barely be able to move. However, in spite of this, fibromyalgia does not feature in Social Security disability listings. The Social Security Administration does, however, have guidance that has been made available to administrative law judges on the right way to assess cases involving symptoms of fibromyalgia. Not surprisingly, as it very often happens in cases of chronic pain, it isn’t easy for a person who suffers from fibromyalgia to claim benefits, but that doesn’t mean that your Social Security disability benefits claim will never be approved. Contact a Social Security Disability attorney if your benefits have been denied and you suffer from fibromyalgia.
